About Us

As experienced home cooks and bakers, we want your cooking adventures to be the best that they can be. This means only investing in equipment & tools that will make your experience easier, more fun, and more productive. Imagine all of the amazing creations you could bake and cook if you had the right tools that wouldn’t compromise your budget or your time.

We know that you have many home cooking projects and ideas. This means spending time browsing through the many different kitchen equipment options is the last thing you want to do. Too often, we see people who end up with a large piece of equipment that only serves a one-time function. We know that that’s not practical for you and your limited kitchen storage.

So whether you’re prepping to enter into the next big bake-off show, embarking on a fantasy cake-making journey, or looking for something that will make decorating cupcakes for your kids a little bit easier, our experienced team will help guide you with all of the information you need.

Whisk and Mix will help you find the best stand mixer, mixing bowls, or even help you narrow down your list of the best french rolling pins. We’ve already been through the trials and tribulations of trying out so many different equipment models in our own home kitchens, so you won’t have to think twice before you press that ‘order now’ button.

So, if you’re ready to deep-dive into the world of cooking and baking, check out our extensive guides on cookware, serve ware, beverage, utensils, storage, and bakeware.

How this works

Any products that are mentioned in our guides have been tried & tested by our writers, each who has a different background in cooking and brings a unique outlook on what cooking utensils are the best. In general, here is how we approach each review:

  • We will only post a product review if we have tried the items in our own home kitchens. Many of the products mentioned have been staples for us over the years, and if we want to share new products we love, we make sure that we’ve weighed the pros and cons of every feature.
  • We take note of how the equipment works throughout its entire lifetime. If we notice that it performs well during cooking but doesn’t stand up well to the dishwasher, we’ll reevaluate and find a better care method, or we won’t suggest it!
  • While our writers are the authority to everything and anything home cooking-related, we also have an editorial team that provides support and suggestions, should the writer ever need assistance.

How did you become interested in cooking and all of its gadgets?

I started cooking with my mom and grandmother as a small child and the passion grew from there into a career. I got to know the gadgets once I got into the kitchen and got a little practical no how on what makes a good piece of equipment and what doesn’t.

What is your must-have kitchen item?

A spatula. They are just so versatile and handy.

What material would you recommend for everyday cook and bakeware? What about a brand?

When it comes to brands, I don’t have any favorites, but I like to bake in stainless steel cookware on a regular basis. Some products are great in silicone, but I don’t recommend it for bakeware.

What is your favorite dish to cook?

Bread. Every single time. It’s just so magical to see it grow, and it makes my house smell heavenly.

What is your first memory of cooking?

I was making biscuits with my Mom. She’s a great home cook, and she was always giving us fun activities to do like baking.

Do you watch any cooking shows?

My favorite cooking show is Great British Bake Off. It’s just so wholesome, and you learn so much without realizing it. It even came in handy at cooking school.

What is your tip for someone who is wanting to learn to cook or expand their cooking skills?

Go on Pinterest and watch cooking shows. Both of these will show you so many delicious new flavors and inspire you to cook regular ingredients and make them something special.

Thanks to her grandmother’s love of cooking and her own passion, along with being a mom, Candance enjoys spending time experimenting and making new meals, along with cooking some of her favorite dishes!

How did you become interested in cooking and all of its gadgets?

As a mom and someone who just loves playing around in the kitchen, it was a no-brainer for me. I love learning about kitchen gadgets, using them, testing them, and then recommending all the best ones to others.

What is your must-have kitchen item?

I would die without my electronic meat thermometer and my Magic Bullet.

What material would you recommend for everyday cooking and bakeware? What about a brand?

I love my Gotham copper cooking set. It’s easy to use, evenly distributes heat, and is easy to clean. Highly recommend.

What is your favorite dish to cook?

Homemade pizza!

What is your first memory of cooking?

With my grandmother, who made everything from scratch. She helped me fall in love with cooking and baking. And she made me a smaller version of her patchwork apron. It’s still one of my most prized possessions to this day.

Do you watch any cooking shows?

Totally addicted to them. My fav right now is the Great Canadian Baking Show.

What is your tip for someone who is wanting to learn to cook or expand their cooking skills?

Just play around and have fun. Test different dishes with flavors, spices, and designs.

Shaleena Quinlan- Our Curious Cook and Gardener

Shaleena knows what it’s like to get food from seed to table while growing up in a family of Midwestern farmers. Her passion for creating healthy but extremely delicious meals she can share with her friends and family keeps her experimenting in the kitchen with new ingredients and kitchen gadgets. But, you’ll always find her with her favorite kitchen gadget, a lemon zester! Shaleena is great about breaking down product information and showcasing her favorite must-have, so Whisk and Mix readers can feel confident in her choices.

How did you become interested in cooking and all of its gadgets?

As an adult, I decided I wanted to fix food that is both healthy and enjoyable to eat, so I mustered up some courage and began experimenting with food. It didn’t always go well, but it was fun, and now I can make a lot of dishes without a recipe. It’s also been an avenue for me to entertain and gift my friends and family.

What is your must-have kitchen item?

I would have to say a lemon zester because I brought one in my suitcase when I moved overseas. I use it for more than just citrus, so I think it comes in handy when you really want to compound flavors.

What material would you recommend for everyday cook and bakeware? What about a brand?

I use stainless steel pots and pans because they better resist leaching chemicals than other types, plus they are quite sturdy. It takes a little practice to get used to this type, but I think it’s worth it. I’m not married to one brand of cookware, but I currently use Calphalon, and they have

been great.

What is your favorite dish to cook?

I have a lot of favorite dishes, but one of my current favorites is paprika chicken and rice. The flavor and texture of this dish is outstanding, and it is a one-dish meal.

What is your first memory of cooking?

That would be with my cousin when we would pretend to have our own cooking show and bake boxed cake mixes.

Do you watch any cooking shows?

Yes. I enjoy watching anything with Nigella Lawson, Curtis Stone, or Carla Hall.

What is your tip for someone who is wanting to learn to cook or expand their cooking skills?

Two things – first, find a cooking show or personality that you enjoy and binge-watch them. They will inspire you to cook better and try new foods and techniques. Then, just practice. Cook as often as you can and try out some of the things you have seen on tv. And don’t forget to have fun even if your dinner ends in disaster. You can always Uber something.
